Emil Adolf von Behring (March 15, 1854 in Hansdorf, Eylau, West Prussia - March 31, 1917 in Marburg, German Empire) was a German physician and the first winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, in 1901, for discovering the diphtheria antitoxin serum and bringing about a rational approach to disease.
