A tribute to the aviators of the First World War and their sacrifices in the race for supremacy of the skies.
The following mintage data has been received from the Royal Mint FOI team, for which we are grateful:
"In 2017, there was insufficient demand for the Aviation £2 coins to enter general circulation. A limited number of BU went into circulation via promotional activities to support the anniversary at RAF Duxford. There were 400 Aviation £2 coins released for this purpose."
Released as part of the 2017 annual BU and Proof sets for 2017 and available in individual BU packs (47,703 sales) and stamp covers (8,137 Sales), the design was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof.
