Comments
In 1792 the Directorate of the West Indies requested the king to have coins struck as was done for the East Indies. With resolution 31-12-1793 this request was permitted. The weight and silver content had to be in line with the Dutch coins, although no Quarter Gulden was produced (aside from the Newyearstokens struck between 1756 and 1759 by the mintmasters for private use and on own expense). The intention was to put these coins into circulation for an extra of 20%, although it is uncertain that this was actually done. It is certain that 12,000 of these Double Stuivers were shipped to Gold Coast (nowadays Guinea).Catalog inconsistencies :Passon catalog has been used here, based on publication year and reputation Fineness: Passon states the silver content at .575, while Schulman gives .810 Size: Passon states the diameter at 20 mm, while Schulman gives 19 mm
