Minted in Lisbon to travel in the region of Minas Gerais. Only coin of face value "XL" coined by D. João V. The captaincy of Minas Gerais was created on 09/12/1720 from the split of the captaincy of São Paulo and Minas do Ouro. Its capital was Vila Rica (present Ouro Preto). On February 28, 1821, it became a province, present state of Minas Gerais, with the Proclamation of the Republic. Until then, the territory was a region and not a province.
