This medal was issued in 2020 to raise funds for the City of Gloucester's quadricentennial celebration in 2023. The medal was designed by Gloucester, Massachusetts artist Beth Swan and minted in antique finished bronze in high relief by Medalcraft Mint of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The design is titled "Out at Sea." In addition to this version, a 76.2 mm was also produced.According to promotional material produced by Gloucester400™, the design on the obverse "combines the city's historic landmarks with a modern-day wind turbine, while the design looking back at Gloucester's sturdy origins and ahead to a skyline that reflects progress and the future, while a codfish swims beneath the waves in a reminder of the ocean's contribution to our economy."
